Prayer Focus: ‘Christians in Afghanistan’ (22 Aug 2021)

Each week we focus our church family prayers on a topic or theme. This week, our prayer focus is for Christians in Afghanistan, following recent events there.

‘Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men.’ (2 Thessalonians 3:1–2 ESV)

  • Thank the LORD for the small, faithful community of believers in Afghanistan.
  • Pray for their safety and material provision, and for courage to face the days with a  firm faith in Christ
  • Pray for the gospel witness of Christians in Afghanistan, that whatever happens, people would still come to know Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life, and that even Taliban leaders may believe the gospel.

Core Commitment

Each week, we also pray through one of our church’s core commitments. This week’s core commitment is to a presbyterian form of church leadership.

By grace, we are committed to grow together in Jesus
by practicing a presbyterian form of church governance,
as defined in the Westminster Confession of Faith
and the WPC book of church order.
(see 1 Peter 5:1-3, 2 Thessalonians 2:15)

Please pray for our church leaders, and the leaders of the whole WPC family, that we would serve Christ faithfully in the way we lead and care for his people.
